Why Reading Motivational books won’t change your life

I received an email on my first book page a few weeks ago and this person was asking me if I really believe that listening to motivational speeches and reading motivational books can change your life. He went on to say that he had been listening to motivational videos everyday for the past year, has read every Motivational book he has been able to lay his hands on and his life has not changed one bit. He wanted to know why I was still encouraging people to keep reading the good, the pure and the powerful and I would like to take this opportunity to explain how this works.

A lot of people think that if they need a motivational book they will find strength and courage will fall on them and they will be able to do everything they have ever dreamed of, however it does not work like that. If you want to change your life you have to take action on the things you have read or listened to. Tony Robins in his master piece Awake the sleeping Giant encourages the readers to take action on the things they are reading, fifteen times in the book he tells his readers they are wasting their time if they are not taking action on what they are reading about. Motivation books are there to show you how other people were able to succeed and achieve great heights in life.

I asked Him who has been listening too and he said he had been reading and listening to Zig Ziglar so I asked him if he had set a goal just because I knew that Zig Ziglar always talked about goals and he said no. I then asked him I bet you also listened to Mr. Ziglar talk about how to achieve your goals and he said he did. There is the problem ladies and gentlemen, people read about setting goals and they don’t set goals, they then move on to reading about how to reach your goal. Why are you reading about reaching your goals when you have not set one? If you read a chapter about setting goals put the book down and set yourself a goal before you move on to the next chapter. When I was young I was told that knowledge is power but when I grew up I discovered that knowledge is potential power which becomes power when acted upon.Frank
