Three years ago I had a training day at work and I have to admit it was one of the most painful things I have ever sat through. All the trainers we had that day were not able to communicate anything in a way that everyone in the room was able to understand. After the training I asked a few people if they thought the training was worth going to and the answer was a resounding no! A lot of people said they thought the training was unproductive because the trainers did not know what they were talking about it. I did not feel the trainers did not know what they talking about but it was because they did not know how to communicate their message in way that could be understood by everyone who was listening to them. A lot of people have one way of communicating in whatever situation they find themselves in. If I am speaking to someone about Human Resources Management and they have never studied the topic, the chances are that if I use only terminology that can only be understood by someone who has studied the topic they will not understand. What do I do then? I have to break it down in a way that can be understood by anyone? How and where can learn this? Toastmasters!

Before joining Toastmasters in 2015 I was a young man full of great ideas, just one problem though, I was not able to communicate my ideas effectively. I had a dream of becoming a life coach but i was rubbish communicator. In 2015 I had an opportunity to speak to young people about doing what they were born to do, just one problem, I could not communicate my techniques to them in way that they could understand. It was at this point I realised I needed help and someone suggested that I needed to join a Toastmasters Club so I joined Gloucester Speakers. At Gloucester Speakers I found people who were able to help me in my Communication; I got feedback from all the members after every speech. This told me whether people understood my message or not and I would then go away and work on the pointers given to me. If you think your communication needs improvement or you are just afraid of speaking in front of people find yourself a toastmasters club. Toastmasters has changed a lot of people’s lives and I am one of them and it can change yours if you join one.
